Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) has been included in the list of the 25 best tourist destinations in the world. According to a recent report by the American broadcasting network CNN, Gilgit-Baltistan has been declared one of the must-visit places for tourism in 2025.
Natural Beauty and Tourist Appeal of Gilgit-Baltistan
Gilgit-Baltistan is renowned worldwide for its scenic valleys and towering mountains. This region attracts thousands of domestic and international tourists and mountaineers each year. Visitors here enjoy activities such as mountain climbing, paragliding, and trekking.
CNN Travel Report
In a report published on Wednesday, CNN Travel highlighted the appeal of Gilgit-Baltistan, stating: “Reaching Gilgit-Baltistan, located in the Karakoram mountains, is not easy—flight schedules can be uncertain, and roads may be closed during the season—but the towering mountains of this region offer the best natural views. Exploring the Himalayas in Gilgit-Baltistan is like taking a walk in Central Park. The sight of the mountains in Gilgit-Baltistan feels like a lemon cake. Several global travel companies offer tours of Gilgit-Baltistan, and it is often referred to as ‘Little Tibet.’ Five of the world’s 14 highest peaks, including K2, are located in Gilgit-Baltistan. K2, the world’s second-highest peak, is known for its challenging and dangerous mountaineering.”
A Paradise for Tourists and Mountaineers
The report also mentioned that the trekking experience in Gilgit-Baltistan is more difficult than that in the Himalayas.
Record Increase in Mountaineers in 2024
The passion for mountaineering in Gilgit-Baltistan is at its peak. In 2024, more than 1,700 foreign mountaineers obtained permits to summit various peaks. Among them, 175 mountaineers attempted to summit K2, which is considered the world’s most dangerous peak.
Government Measures and Efforts to Promote Tourism
According to Pakistani officials, various steps are being taken to improve tourism infrastructure in Gilgit-Baltistan and facilitate international tourists. Experts believe that Gilgit-Baltistan’s inclusion in CNN’s list is a positive development for Pakistan’s tourism sector, which could also boost the country’s economy.
