Tucked away in the majestic mountains of Yasin, District Ghizer, Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan, lies the breathtaking Darkut Valley. Located in the Ghizer district of Gilgit-Baltistan, Darkut Valley is a mere 40 km from the Yasin center and 100 km from the district headquarters Gahkuch. As we embarked on our journey to Darkut Valley, we were struck by the majestic beauty of the surrounding mountains. The winding roads, lined with lush green forests and sparkling streams, led us to the heart of the valley.

The area is surrounded by a stunningly dense Birch forest, with trees that seem to touch the sky. The forest floor, carpeted with a thick layer of snow, glistened in the winter sun, creating a breathtakingly beautiful landscape.

As we spent the night in our tent, surrounded by the serene silence of the forest, we felt a deep connection with nature. It was a quite different experience to spend chill night in the tent. The biting cold was alleviated by the warmth of the campfire and the breathtaking beauty of our surroundings, making for a truly unique and memorable experience. The campsite transformed into a winter wonderland, with snow-covered trees and frozen landscapes stretching as far as the eye could see. The melodic calls of mountain cocks echoing through the forest in the early morning hours were nothing short of magical.

If you want to sit by the river and admire the craftsmanship of nature, you can stop for a while at a place called Mashar near Gaindae, or stay at the intermediate area between Yaseen Khas and Taos, where you can sit by the clear water of the river coming from Nazbar and refresh your mind. For camping, you can choose places like Qarqalti, Makoli, Nazbar, Thoi, Morong, and Brandas. If you are interested in viewing various villages of Pasin, you can capture the beauty of the area with your camera from Bajaiyot, Khan Yate, Thaos Chhamarkhan, Sandi Modri, Selpe Barklti, or Shagiteen and Thoi, near Drach or Dapace.

If you are keen on visiting historical sites and learning about the remnants of customs and traditions, you can visit places like Noh Ziarat, the house where the seed planting ceremony was held, Yaseen Fort, Modori Fort, Chhamarkhan, Bahri Khan, Qalmqay Khan, Darban Turchit, and Farang-e-Bar. The incident at Modori is the darkest and most painful event in Yaseen’s history, where the people of Yaseen were massacred in the late 19th century. George Howard attempted to bring this tragic event to the world’s attention, but he was killed at the site of Darkot.
